Our History and Experience
School Expeditions, Independent Expeditions, Volunteer in Malawi, Three Peaks Challenge, Educational Expeditions.
River Africa was established in 2010 and has been taking Independent travellers to Africa to volunteer in local community projects and attempt to summit incredible mountains like Kilimanjaro, Mulanje and Zomba Plateau.
When you join a RIVER Africa led Expedition and you commit to a structured international or UK based Expedition, your efforts go a long-way to helping change lives of some of the poorest people in Africa.
Changing lives is at the centre of everything that RIVER Africa and its partners are committed to doing. Approximately Half of the money that you raise and pay will go directly to community projects in Africa, while the other half is spent on your flights, food, general sustenance and other Expedition expenses consumed by you.
Your volunteer efforts will help to reduce the number of unnecessary and preventable deaths currently being suffered by poor people in hard-to-reach rural areas of Africa, especially those in Malawi. By joining one of our Expeditions and taking part in an event you are making essential contributions towards these goals.
Your contributions will enable RIVER Africa and its partners to provide essential lifesaving interventions and improve livelihoods of people in marginalised communities.

Are you ready for the Expedition of a life time?
Our Expeditions to Malawi provide young people opportunities to develop soft skills. These are developed in varied geographical and cultural environments that present physical, emotional and mental challenges. Therefore, these conditions take the young person out of their comfort zone and teach them to deal with unfamiliar situations and to cope with new environments.
Participation is at the epicentre of our “Courage to Make a Difference” program. It presents young people with the opportunity to set and agree their own goals, decide pathways to achieving set goals, standards of measuring success and take responsibility for their own learning. This will enable them to eventually become confident decision makers.
Visiting and volunteering in poverty stricken areas, varied geography and rich culture, ensures that young people gain a full understanding and appreciation of Malawi and its position in the world. Upon their return home, they will be equipped with a refined collection of the type of soft skills that many employers and universities are looking for, putting them at the front of the queue.
